Description

Accion Venture Lab invests capital in and provides support to innovative finch startups that improve access, quality, and affordability of financial services for the underserved at scale.  Accion works in Latin America with emphasis on Brazil and Mexico, Africa with emphasis on Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, and Asia with emphasis on India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.  They work to provide early-stage startups with the capital necessary to grow and support the communities around them.  With typical investments ranging from $300,000 to $500,000, innovative business models and technologies that create change in underserved communities are what make up the Accion Venture Lab Portfolio.

In the past, Unleashed has worked with Accion on a variety of different projects spanning many different continents.  Projects have included Community Development Financial Institutions in the United States, Insurtech and Agriculture Fintech in Sub-Saharan Africa, SE Asia Fintech, Blockchain, and currently, Education Fintech in Africa and Asia.  Work has included industry analyses, country/region analyses for investment potential, as well as company analyses for business model innovation.  Much of the work being done on the project depends on the need of Accion and the type of project given that semester.
